"GANDY DANCER"

In 1999, the City of Flagstaff, Arizona held a competition for public art about the history
of transportation in the area. Morgan's winning entry, "The Gandy Dancer," is a depiction of
a railroad worker, circa 1882. Rail tools that were used by these railroad workers were
manufactured by the Gandy Tool Company. The railroad workers had to work in unison and often
to a cadence in order to move the heavy rails and ties, thus the term "gandy dancer."
