"BLACK ROPE - 1883"
Bronze, Edition of 30
19"x14"x13"

Black Rope, a White Mountain Apache, was an army scout under General Crook. This bust represents Black Rope as he probably appeared during Crook's famous campaign of 1883 into Sonora, Mexico in search of Geronimo. Captain Bourke, on the General's staff, kept a day-by-day diary of the expedition. Bourke was impressed by the Apache scouts and called them "the perfect, the ideal scout of the whole world; with eyes as keen as a hawk's, tread as stealthy as a panther's, and ears that heard everything."
